Jim Schoeler is a trumpet and lower brass tutor currently completing his Bachelor of Jazz Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he is entering his final semester in 2026.

A proficient trumpet player, Jim has also developed strong experience across trombone, euphonium and tuba, drawing on his background in brass bands and his family connection to lower brass. His interest in low brass playing was shaped by his father, a professional low brass player and educator.

During his time at the Sydney Conservatorium, Jim has studied with renowned Australian trumpeters including Simon Sweeney, Warwick Alder, Phil Slater and Tom Avgenicos. He currently performs with the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra 1 as section leader, and works regularly across Sydney in a variety of live performance and recording projects spanning multiple genres.

As a teacher, Jim aims to provide a relaxed, supportive and encouraging learning environment. His lessons draw on school band repertoire while also introducing solo material to help students stay motivated, build strong technique and develop confidence in their playing.
